Vaney, SM, is a
lecturer in Christian ethics at Good Shepherd College, Auckland, New Zealand.
He holds an MA from the University of Canterbury,an STL from Gregorian
University in Rome, and a PhD from the University of Otago.
He has written articles
for a variety of publications and has contributed to five previous books,
including Catholic Dictionary of Social Justice, and Human Rights and the Common Good. He resides in Grafton, Auckland, New Zealand.
Carole Garibaldi Rogers Carole Garibaldi Rogers' book, Fasting:
Exploring a Great Spiritual Practice, was the featured book for October 2004.
Carole Garibaldi Rogers is a
professional writer, editor and oral historian. She has written numerous
magazine and newspaper articles for publications such as America and The New
York Times. This is her sixth book. Ms. Rogers received an MA in theology
from the College of Saint Elizabeth where she currently directs an oral
history project. She lives in Morristown, New Jersey, with her husband, Leo.
They are the parents of two grown sons.
Drew Leder The September 2004 SBA selection, Sparks
of the Divine was
written by Drew Leder.
Drew Leder is a professor of western
and eastern philosophy at Loyola College in Maryland. He holds an MD from
Yale University School of Medicine and a PhD in philosophy from the State
University of New York at Stony Brook. Leder's five previous books include
the revolutionary Spiritual Passages: Embracing Life's Sacred Journey (1997); Games for the Soul: 40 Playful
Ways to Find Fun and Fulfillment in a Stressful World (1998); and The Soul Knows No Bars:
Inmates Reflect on Life, Death, and Hope
(2000).
Leder has received national media
attention for his work, appearing on radio around the country. He has also
been featured in a wide range of publications, including Family Circle, New
Age, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, and others. In addition to teaching and writing,
Leder lectures, consults, and offers workshops around the country. He resides
in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife and two daughters.

Carol Joy
Carol's book, Journey's of Courage was the May 2004 SBA featured book.
Joy Carol is a spiritual director,
counselor, and author. She leads retreats and workshops for medical schools,
seminaries, retreat centers, churches, and other groups on a wide range of
topics, including spirituality, healing, prayer, caregiving, and death and
dying.
Carol has worked for the Ford
Foundation, Save the Children, Christian Children's Fund, and the United
Nations. She has been honored nationally as an outstanding educator and holds
an honorary doctorate from Nebraska Wesleyan University and master's degrees
from General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York and the
University of Maryland. Carol's previous book, Towers of Hope: Stories to
Help Us Heal, has enjoyed wide acclaim.
Antoinette Bosco
Antoinette Bosco's book, One Day He Beckoned was the April 2004 SBA
selection.
Antoinette Bosco has written "The Bottom Line" for the
Catholic News Service since 1974. She was formerly the executive editor of The
Litchfield County Times and wrote for The
Long Island Catholic for eleven years.
She served on the Suffolk County, Long Island Human Rights Commission and was
a faculty and staff member at State University of New York at Stony Brook.
She's written over 250 magazine articles and was honored in 2002 with a
Christopher Award and a Pax Christi award for Choosing Mercy, A Mother of Murder Victims Pleads to
End the Death Penalty, which also
received wide critical acclaim. One Day He Beckoned is her eleventh book. Bosco lives in Brookfield,
Connecticut.
George Niederauer
Niederauer's book, Precious as Silver, was the March 2004 SBA
Selection.
Eighth Bishop, Diocese of Salt Lake City (1936), Bishop George
H. Niederauer was ordained a priest on April 30, 1962, for the Archdiocese of
Los Angeles. He served as spiritual director, faculty member, and rector of
St. John's Seminary, and was co-director of the Cardinal Manning House of
Prayer for Priests, in Los Angeles.
On November 3, 1994, he was appointed eighth bishop of the
Diocese of Salt Lake City; he received this ordination in the Cathedral of
the Madeleine on January 25, 1995.
Michael Ford
Eternal Seasons, edited by Michael Ford and based on Henri
Nouwen's experiences with the Liturgical Year, was the February 2004 Featured
Book.
Michael Ford has worked as a journalist, lecturer, and
broadcaster. He has a degree in theology from the University of Bristol and a
doctorate in Christian spirituality. He is the author of Wounded Prophet:
A Portrait of Henri J. M. Nouwen
(Doubleday, 1999) and Father Mychal Judge: An American Hero (Paulist, 2002).
Henri J. M. Nouwen is one of the most popular spiritual
writers of our time. He wrote more than 40 books, among them the best-selling
Out of Solitude. He taught at the
University of Notre Dame, as well as Yale and Harvard Universities. From 1986
until his death in 1996, he was part of the L'Arche Daybreak community in
Toronto where he shared his life with people with mental disabilities.
