Description

God Reveals: An Introduction to the Bible Teacher’s Manual supports Course 1 of the USCCB Curriculum Framework and the student book. The Teacher’s Manual provides many resources to assist the teacher in evangelizing and catechizing their students.

The Teacher’s Manual provides suggestions for teaching the course including:

  • Section Objectives: Two or three objectives—cognitive or affective—capture what the section hopes to accomplish with the students.
  • Opening Segue: These suggestions vary from section to section, and may be a prayer, Scripture reading, or short writing assignment. These can be student-led, or completed independently as seatwork.
  • A Variety of Different Teaching Approaches: These approaches build on the Student Text to add new information, look at the material in greater depth, and encourage students to make connections in their own lives. There are three Teaching Approaches to correspond with each section in the Student Text. Each approach is independent of the other and has been designed for 50-minute class periods. For longer block scheduling class periods, the Teaching Approaches can be combined.
  • Methods and Techniques Used in Teaching Approaches: The Teaching approaches use several of the following practices:
    • Scripture Reading: Encourage the students to carefully read the text, including any biblical commentary, and apply it to the topic.
    • Large- and Small-Group Discussion Techniques: Discussion builds Christian community in the classroom and often leads to faith sharing among students. Techniques such as “think-pair-share”, “paper chat”, or a panel discussion format are provided to facilitate class discussions.
    • Metacognition practices: Assess what the students know, what they want to know, and what they’ve learned.
  • Cooperative Learning Strategies: Strategies are provided for covering larger amounts of material in a short period of time, such as the jigsaw method, “chalk talk”, and writing assignments using note-taking skills, and personal reflection prompts.
  • Transition Takeaways: Offer teachers opportunities to preview for the students what is coming next, and remind them of upcoming assignments or assessments.
  • Other Elements: Section assessment answers to comprehension and vocabulary items, suggestions for assessing reflection items, answers to questions and assignments associated with the separate features, Faithful Disciple profiles, and section review assignments.

Each Teacher’s Manual includes a Scope and Sequence Chart that provides an overview of the course chapter by chapter, and sample scheduling grids for traditional or block-scheduling calendars.

More Classroom Resources, such as handouts, YouTube videos, PowerPoint slides, directed reading worksheets, crossword puzzles, rubrics, tests, and test answers can be accessed online at https://resources.avemariapress.com/resources/.
