Bob Schuchts is the bestselling author of Be Healed, Be Transformed, Be Devoted, and Be Restored, and his newest book, Do You Want to Be Healed? He is the founder of the John Paul II Healing Center in Tallahassee, Florida, and cohost of the Restore the Glory podcast with Jake Khym. Bob discusses his journey of healing and the transforming graces of the sacraments as he sought to repair wounds in his life. Schuchts also talks about initial steps toward healing your heart and mind.

Q: Share a bit about your background and ministry.
A: I am a lifelong Catholic who is in love with Jesus and his Church. I am a widower, a father, and a grandfather of ten. I founded the John Paull II Healing Center and spent over thirty years as a family therapist and adjunct professor. I’ve written books on healing, sacraments, and relationships.

Q: Tell us about your personal journey of healing.
A: I became aware of my need for healing twenty years after my parent's separation and divorce as I began to experience anxiety and insecurity in my marriage. This propelled me into deeper prayer and Scripture study, therapy, and then into spiritual healing through sacraments and community. A powerful encounter with the Holy Spirit on a retreat weekend led to much personal and family healing which then transformed my therapy practice and teaching as well. St. John Paul II’s writing played a central role in my understanding of God’s design for the human person, relationships, and Trinitarian communion.

Q: How have the sacraments played a role in your healing?
A: The sacraments were and continue to be sustaining means of grace in my life. My eyes were opened to their healing power when seeing them in my brother Dave’s healing and transformation and in the healing within our family.

Q: What piece of advice or encouragement would you give to someone who is struggling to find healing from the “wounds of life”?
A: Rely on the Holy Spirit to lead you. Be honest with yourself and be patient with the process. God’s love heals. We need to feel secure in his love in order to face our wounds and allow Jesus to heal them. There are plenty of resources available to help guide you on the journey. Our website at the John Paul II Healing Center has books, conferences, and talks available to help you. Also, frequent the sacraments as often as possible and prepare your heart to receive them.
