God’s Word Can Transform You
Featuring Laurie Manhardt
In this week's episode, Sarah Christmyer talks with Laurie Manhardt about how she was overwhelmed by God’s loving care at a critical point in her life. Laurie's experience breathed life into scripture and launched her into sharing it with others through a new Catholic Bible study program called Come and See. Laurie shares her love of John’s Gospel and the verse that helps her find rest.
Laurie Manhardt is the coauthor of the eighteen-volume Come and See Catholic Bible Study series, designed to help laypeople study all seventy-three books of the Bible. She contributed a dozen introductions to New Testament books for the Living the Word Catholic Women’s Bible. Laurie can be contacted at catholicbiblestd@aol.com.
Take Laurie’s Favorite Scripture to Your Next Holy Hour
Pray: Come, Holy Spirit, open my heart and mind to hear your word today.
Read the Word: Matthew 11: 28–30
(Read it in your own Bible so you can make notes.)
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Ponder the Word: Read the passage several times, lingering where it touches your heart. What catches your attention? What do you hear the Lord saying to you?
Pray with the Word: Bring to the Lord what you have heard and talk to him about it. Ask for his grace. Thank him for his loving care.
Live the Word: How does what you read touch your life? What can you do this week to put it into practice?
